IONTOPHORESIS PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: See Phoresor System and electrode instruc­tion guides for indications, contraindications, warnings, pre­cautions and directions for use.

1.  Clean skin is absolutely necessary to minimize or elimi­nate skin irritation. Clean both electrode sites vigorously with an alcohol wipe prior to applying electrodes to remove dry skin, salts and oils. Excess hair may be trimmed with scisiors or electric clippers. Do not shave skin. Doing so may result in excessive irritation or burns.

2.                Prepare electrodes according to package instructions.

3.                Place the drug electrode longitudinally, centered over the involved tendons.

4.                The dispersive pad may be placed proximal to the ana­tomical snuffbox over the forearm muscles. Never tape, bind or compress either electrode in any way. Properly prepared drug electrodes and dispersive pads do not require added fixation on properly prepared skin.

5.                Do not allow the patient to extend or flex wrist or thumb or to press on or lean against the electrodes during treatment. Also, be sure the patient's clothing does not press on the electrodes in any way. This prevents circuit breaks and minimizes the possibility of excessive skin irritation or burns.

6.                Set treatment dosage (for TransQ_x electrodes) accord­ing to the package instructions.

7.                Treat every other day. Usually, no more than three to six treatments are required, but there is no contraindication for additional treatments.
